The ferry, the house and the horse
Saturday, March 29th, 2008From St Mary’s the two of us and John and Nancy took the ferry to Cumberland Island. Nathanael Greene bought land on the island in 1783 and his widow Catherine Greene built a four story tabby home named Dungeness. In 1884 Thomas Carnegie (brother of Andrew)with his wife Lucy began building on the foundation of Dungeness. The island is home to herds of wild horses and is where John Kennedy Jr got married.

The house (if I had waited for these people to leave I would have been there all day
The horse. It seems that all of the horses were on the beach that day except the lone ranger below
Thinking back to Amelia Island on a Travel Day
Friday, March 28th, 2008Went 415 miles from Kings Bay to Asheville today. Nothing exciting so we will revisit Amelia Island. The Island was named after the daughter of King George (I think). As soon as you cross the bridge to the island there is Barbara Jeans restaurant. Those who had the she crab soup said it was excellent. The shrimp salad sandwiches were great and John seemed to like his grilled cheese sandwich.
Fernandina Beach in the main town on Amelia Island. It is a tourist seaside town crammed with shops most of which have a pirate theme. All the good looking chicks seem to hang out with the bad boys.

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008Traveled with John and Nancy the 300 miles to Kings Bay. Made it. The first picture is the missile display on base and the second is inside the Irish Pub at the Base Bowling Center where the four of us had drinks and sandwiches. No one felt like cooking.
From left to right: Polaris A-1, A-2, and A-3. In the middle is the Trident 3. And then: Poseidon C-3 and Trident C-4 .
Two dartboards advertising guess what at the Irish Pub.
Happy Easter again.

Sunday, March 23rd, 2008Last night was the second to last night here so it was PoFolks for dinner for six and then Jokers for eight. The women won but not by much. Today is our last day. Breakfast at Corams for four. Then Church. Then getting ready to go. And then Golden Corral for six for dinner. Below is Corams. The food is actually very good as long as you don’t look at the cooking area.
